Basic Guide to Our Polar Heart Rate Monitor and Software

To simplify matters, only the first name of each button is mentioned here. For example, the button labelled Set/Start/Stop (on the left of the watch) is referred to simply as Set. The big red button is called Store. The button at the top right is Select, and the button at the bottom right is Signal.

(I haven't checked this fully, so be careful if you don't want to lose data.) If you get into a strange mode, and need to get back to the time of day display, keep pressing Select until you get to the time mode.

All instructions assume the watch is in Time of day mode (the default).

Configuring the Software

  1. Click on Options
  2. Click Preferences
  3. Select the Hardware tab
  4. Click the dropdown labelled IR Communication Port
  5. Select Not in use
  6. Under Advanced, click the Other Polar HR Monitors button
  7. Click the checkbox for Polar Accurex Plus
  8. Click the dropdown for Interface
  9. Select Polar Interface Plus
  10. Click OK to close the Other Polar HR Monitors dialog box
  11. Click OK to close the Software Preferences dialog box

Recording Heart Rate

The recording facility works whenever the stopwatch is running. In other words, you don't have to turn recording on as if it were a separate feature; just start the stopwatch.

  1. Press the Set button to go into Stopwatch mode.
  2. Press Set again to start the stopwatch.
  3. Press Set again to stop the stopwatch.

Downloading Files

From time of day display.

  1. In the Polar Precision Performance SW program, click Tools
  2. Click Memory Transfer…
  3. Press Select twice. “Left” and “Files” should be flashing at the top of the screen.
  4. Press Store once. The ‘cover page’ of the previously recorded file should be displayed. That is, the date of the recording, and the file number should be flashing at the top of the screen.
  5. Optionally, press Signal to change file.
  6. When the required file is selected, press Set once. “COM” should be displayed at the top of the screen.
  7. In the Polar Precision Performance SW program, click OK
  8. Press Store on the watch.

Deleting Files

You need to delete files eventually, since they take up memory, thus reducing the amount of time future recordings can last for.

From time of day display.

  1. Press Select twice to get to the files view.
  2. Press Set to delete the most recent file. (Note: You cannot keep the most recent file and delete earlier files — you have to delete one at a time, starting from the most recent.)
  3. To confirm the deletion, press Store. To cancel, press Select.
